The state government would distribute as many as 84,000 Unique Disability Identification (UDID) Cards to registered Divyangjan, said Union Minister of State for Social Justice and Empowerment Pratima Bhowmik in a programme here on Friday. Once a Divyangjan got the card it would enable him or her to work in other states and facilities meant for them would be available hassle free.

While speaking at the programme organized to felicitate the Divyangjan students of government home who passed Madhyamik and Higher Secondary examinations this year in Agartala Town Hall. Bhowmik said “In the past seven years, the central government distributed tri-cycles, aids and 21 types of Assistive Devices among 20 lakh Divyangajn across the country at an expenditure of total Rs. 1,235 crore”, Bhowmik told programme.

The Union Minister also announced that initiative would be taken to open District Disability Rehabilitation Centre (DDRC) in all districts. At present, four DDRCs are functioning in the state.

Speaking at the function, the Union Minister appreciated the role of the state government in Covid pandemic management. She also stated that vaccination of almost 93 percent people was already completed and the state was now marching towards 100 percent vaccination.

Social Welfare and Social Justice Santana Chakma, Paschim Tripura Zilla Sabhadhipati Antara Sarkar Deb, chairperson of Tripura Commission for Women- Barnali Goswami, chairperson of Tripura Commission for Protection of Child Rights Nilima Ghosh, Principal Secretary J.K. Sinha, Director Siddhartha Shiv Jaiswal and other dignitaries were present.
