Total 210 nominations were submitted by different political parties. CPM, BJP and TMC are three parties that fielded candidates in all of the 51 wards of the Agartala Municipal Council. Congress managed to nominate candidates in 34 seats while Tipra Motha in 5 and newly floated Tripura Democratic Front (TDF) fielded candidates in three wards.
In what seems to be a determined step the TMC joined the ULB elections -notwithstanding its limitations and political pressures . The party filed nominations for all 51-ward Agartala Municipal Corporation (AMC). On the final day of nomination filing on Wednesday, Trinamool Congress submitted 52 nominations in AMC. Total 58 candidates submitted nominations for the polls in AMC) on Wednesday. Apart from TMC, Congress submitted two more nominations, Amra Bangali 1 and Independent candidates submitted three nominations to the concerned ROs in AMC .
Among the notables, Baptu Chakraborty, the convener of Youth TMC State steering committee submitted nomination papers in AMC today.
Apart from AMC, Trinamool Congress also submitted nominations in other Civic Bodies on Wednesday.
Our Ambasa correspondent adds: Trinamool Congress (TMC) submitted 15 nominations for Ambasa Municipal Council Polls to concerned RO on Wednesday.
A total of 48 nomination forms was submitted from several parties including- BJP 15, CPM 15, TMC 15 and Tipra Motha submitted three nominations.
Our Belonia correspondent adds: TMC filed nomination papers for six wards in 17-ward Belonia Municipal Council on Wednesday, TMC leader Tridev Dutta told the media.
He said, “We had shortlisted candidates for all the 17 seats but due to volatile political situation many of them did not come to submit their papers. Therefore, we have come out submitting only six members for the polls.”
Our Kailashahar correspondent adds: Trinamool Congress (TMC) candidates submitted four nominations in 17-ward Kailashahar Municipal Council today. They submitted to Returning officer cum SDM Santi Ranjan Chakma.
Zillur Rahman, a TMC leader alleged that due to political terror and intimidation created by BJP, the Trinamool Congress could not field candidates in all the wards in Kailasahar.
He also alleged, “Candidates who were nominated by the party, were threatened by some miscreants last night, he said.”
