A 17-year-old boy died after being run over by an Agartala–Sabroom passenger train in South Tripura. Police confirmed the identity and launched an investigation as the tragic railway accident raised fresh safety concerns.

A tragic railway accident claimed the life of a 17-year-old boy in South Tripura district on Tuesday morning, triggering concern over rail safety and public awareness near active tracks.

The deceased has been identified as Tushar Reang, a resident of Durgarai Para under Santirbazar Subdivision, police officials confirmed. The fatal incident occurred at around 6:30 am when an Agartala–Sabroom passenger train was passing through the area.

According to preliminary police findings, the teenager had reportedly gone close to the railway tracks when he was struck by the speeding train. The impact was severe, resulting in instantaneous death at the spot. Local residents rushed to the scene after hearing the sound of the accident and immediately alerted the authorities.

Railway and police officials arrived soon after and shifted the body to Santirbazar Subdivision Hospital, where doctors formally declared the teenager dead on arrival. The incident caused temporary distress among local residents, many of whom gathered near the tracks following the accident.

Police officials stated that necessary legal formalities, including the preparation of the inquest report, are currently underway. The body is expected to be handed over to the family after the completion of post-mortem procedures, as per standard protocol.

Authorities have initiated an investigation to determine the exact circumstances that led to the tragedy. While no foul play has been suspected so far, officials said they are examining whether negligence, lack of awareness, or unsafe movement near railway tracks contributed to the incident.

The incident once again highlights the growing concern over railway safety, especially in residential areas where tracks pass close to human settlements. Officials have urged residents, particularly young people, to maintain a safe distance from railway lines and strictly follow safety advisories to prevent such heart-breaking incidents in the future.
