Tripura is buzzing with excitement as preparations are underway for the Golden Jubilee celebration of the state-level Bizumela festival, set to take place at Machmara village in Unakoti district from April 11 to April 15. This 50-year-old festival holds a special place as it beautifully showcases the cultural diversity of the Chakma community, a vibrant and integral part of Tripura's heritage.
Announcing the progress of the festival preparations, representatives of the Mela committee held a press conference at the Agartala press club on Tuesday. General Secretary of the Bizumela Committee, Sajal Bikash Chakma, shared details about the event, highlighting the extended duration of this year's festival to five days, in honor of the Golden Jubilee.
Distinguished personalities including Vice Chancellor of Tripura University, Ganga Prasad Prasain, will grace the inaugural program on Thursday as the chief guest. Joining him will be Chairman of the State Social Council, Jatikala Vikshu, renowned writer from Bangladesh, Parimal Chakma, and other esteemed guests.
However, due to the upcoming Lok Sabha elections in India, several speakers and attendees from neighboring countries will be unable to attend this year's festivities, according to Sajal Bikash Chakma. This may result in a smaller turnout from regions like Assam, Sikkim, Manipur, Nagaland, and Bangladesh.
Despite these challenges, the organizers are determined to make the Golden Jubilee celebration a memorable and enriching experience for all participants and visitors. The festival promises a vibrant display of Chakma culture through traditional music, dance performances, art exhibitions, and culinary delights.
Notable figures present at the press conference included renowned writer Niranjan Chakma, Mela Committee Media Secretary Sakti Kumar Chakma, Uttara Chakma, Preparatory Committee Transport Convenor Prabir Chakma, and other key members involved in organizing this grand event.
The Bizumela festival holds great significance in Tripura, serving as a platform to celebrate the rich heritage and artistic expressions of the Chakma community. As the festivities kick off on April 11, locals and visitors alike eagerly anticipate a memorable celebration of culture and tradition at this landmark Golden Jubilee event.
