The third season of the Women’s Premier League (WPL) 2025 got underway in Vadodara today with the opening match between Royal Challengers Bengaluru, RCB, and Gujarat Giants, GG, at Kotambi Stadium. Put in to bat first, Gujarat Giants have set a target of 202 runs before RCB, being led by Smriti Mandhana. GG scored 201 for 5 in the stipulated 20 overs. Ashleigh Gardner played the skipper’s knock, scoring the highest 79 runs in 37 balls, followed by Beth Mooney with 56 in 42.

In reply, RCB was 27 for 2 in 3 overs when reports last came in.

Five teams are competing across four Indian cities: Vadodara, Bengaluru, Lucknow, and Mumbai in this year’s edition.

The five teams are Royal Challengers Bengaluru, Gujarat Giants, Delhi Capitals, UP Warriorz, and Mumbai Indians. The tournament will run until the 15th of next month, with the final scheduled at Brabourne Stadium in Mumbai.
