World Hypertension Day 2025 –

Must Read

World Hypertension Day is being observed across the globe today. The day aims to raise awareness about the risks associated with high blood pressure and promote effective strategies for its prevention and management.

This year marks the 20th anniversary of this observance, under the compelling theme, Measure Your Blood Pressure Accurately, Control It, Live Longer. World Hypertension Day was started in 2005 by the World Hypertension League (WHL), a non-governmental organisation focused on fighting high blood pressure worldwide.

Talking exclusively to Akashvani News, Dr. Naval K. Vikram, Professor in Department of Medicine, AIIMS, New Delhi said that hypertension is a silent killer and does not cause any symptoms until it reaches a dangerous level. He further highlighted some major complications of hypertension, which include heart disease and stroke.

Dr Vikram underscored the importance of evaluating blood pressure regularly. He said that hypertension can be prevented by following a healthy lifestyle, becoming physically active, reducing stress, and making dietary changes. He also emphasized the need to check salt intake to prevent hypertension.
