World Chess Champion Gukesh was given a grand welcome at the Chennai airport today. The 18-year-old Champion looked overwhelmed at his victory and reaching his hometown for the first time as a World Chess Champion. Hundreds of his fans and sports enthusiasts welcome Gukesh with Portraits, flags, festoons and welcome banners. A team of high-ranking officials from the State Sports Ministry escorted Gukesh as he arrived at the Chennai Airport.

Addressing the media he said that it was a dream for him from Childhood to become a World Champion. Gukesh said to achieve, one must enjoy learning the process and keep on improvising to achieve the goal. Asked about his emotions during the game, he said that it was an emotional roller coaster journey for him in the 14th game. The World Champion said that Hard Work and keeping motivated are the basic rules to attain a long successive career. Earlier after arriving at the Chennai airport, Gukesh said that his victory was important to India and thanked everyone for giving the much-needed energy to those who supported him in this journey.
