Women in Ward No. 4 under Rajnagar Gram Panchayat locked a Jal Jeevan Mission pump house over a three-month drinking water crisis, alleging damaged pipelines and poor-quality pipes. They warned of larger agitation unless authorities permanently resolve the water supply problem.

Women residents of Ward No. 4 under Rajnagar Gram Panchayat in Jubarajnagar block locked the Jal Jeevan Mission pump house on Thursday, protesting a severe drinking water crisis that has continued for nearly three months.

According to the agitating residents, the locality has been facing prolonged disruption in drinking water supply due to damage to a major pipeline connected to the pump. The women claimed that despite repeated complaints to the concerned authorities, the damaged pipeline has not been repaired, leaving residents struggling to access regular drinking water.

The protesters also alleged that poor-quality pipes were used during the implementation of the Jal Jeevan Mission project, resulting in frequent leakages and repeated interruptions in the water supply. They demanded immediate intervention from the authorities and a permanent solution to the pipeline-related problems.

During the protest, the women spoke with pump operator Debashish Debnath and apprised him of the difficulties being faced by residents. Debnath assured them that the issue would be brought to the attention of higher authorities and that necessary repair work would be carried out soon.

However, the protesting women remained dissatisfied with assurances alone. They kept the pump house key in their possession and warned that they would launch a larger agitation if the drinking water problem was not permanently resolved.
