The Mahila Praharis (women constables) of the Border Security Force (BSF) thwarted a major smuggling attempt near the Ashabari border outpost in Sepahijala district early this morning. The situation turned critical when a large group of smugglers, armed with sharp-edged weapons, attempted to forcefully carry out the smuggling of contraband items.

In a high-pressure scenario, the Mahila Praharis fired two rounds from their service weapons to prevent the smugglers from advancing. This decisive action not only dispersed the group but also led to the recovery of a significant quantity of sugar and other contraband materials.

In a separate operation yesterday around 4:50 PM, BSF troops stationed at the Gaurnagar border outpost in Khowai district apprehended three Bangladeshi nationals attempting to illegally cross into Bangladesh. The detainees, hailing from the Brahmanbaria district of Bangladesh, revealed during interrogation the identities of both Indian and Bangladeshi touts who facilitated their crossing attempts.

The BSF has also achieved substantial success in combating infiltration and smuggling through non-lethal strategies. Over recent operations, they rescued 10 cattle and seized contraband items, including 1,000 kilograms of sugar, 16 kilograms of ganja, clothing, medicines, and other goods. The total estimated value of the recovered items exceeds ₹50 lakhs.
