Despite several initiatives made by government to tackle the attacks of Wild elephants, once again on Wednesday, a jumbo came out from jungle and ventured into South Gilatali under Kalyanpur Sub-division.
Although the elephant did not cause much damage but it caused a distress in the minds of the people. The elephant returned to the forest by dawn as a result of continuous firecrackers fired by forest department volunteers and villagers.
Ratnadeep Chakma, Ranger of Kalyanpur Forest Range, said the elephants came to Kalyanpur from Teliamura Range area in search of food.
In a separate incident, a domesticated elephant went mad at Dasda Helanpur, about 18 km from Kanchanpur on Thursday.
The elephant was used for timber puling in jungle. The mad elephant is not following Mahut’s instructions and started running wild in the forest.
Forest guards are working hard to keep an eye on the elephant.
A team of experts from Agartala would come for its treatment, Debjit Sukla Baidya, a forester told reporters.
