West Tripura administration launches intensified drive to eliminate tuberculosis, pledging free screening, medicines, nutritional support, and community awareness under the national TB-Free India mission, aiming for a healthier and TB-Free West Tripura district.

The West Tripura district administration has reaffirmed its commitment to eliminate tuberculosis and transform the region into a TB-Free District. A crucial high-level meeting was held on Wednesday at the West Tripura District Office Conference Hall to outline strategies and accelerate efforts under the national tuberculosis elimination programme.

The meeting was chaired by District Magistrate Dr. Vishal Kumar and attended by West Tripura Zilla Sabhadhipati Biswajit Shil, senior health officials, administrative officers, and representatives from allied departments. The gathering focused on strengthening coordination, expanding outreach, and ensuring that every affected individual receives timely diagnosis and treatment.

Addressing the media after the meeting, District Magistrate Dr. Vishal Kumar stated that all participants collectively took an oath to achieve a TB-Free West Tripura. He emphasized that the district administration is prioritizing early detection and uninterrupted treatment as key components of the campaign. According to Dr. Kumar, free tuberculosis screening and diagnostic facilities are currently available at all Primary Health Centres across the district. Additionally, patients are being provided free medicines as per national health guidelines.

Dr. Kumar further highlighted that nutritional support plays a critical role in recovery. Special initiatives are being undertaken to ensure that TB patients receive adequate and nutritious food to strengthen immunity and improve treatment outcomes. Alongside medical care, community-based awareness programmes are being intensified to remove stigma, encourage early reporting of symptoms, and build confidence among patients and their families.

“The fight against tuberculosis stands on three strong pillars—social support, nutritional assistance, and accessible healthcare,” Dr. Kumar said, underlining the district’s integrated approach to disease elimination.

He urged citizens to actively participate in awareness campaigns and support government initiatives to achieve the shared goal.

The meeting concluded with a renewed sense of collective responsibility among officials, healthcare workers, and community leaders. With strengthened surveillance, free healthcare services, nutritional support, and public participation, West Tripura aims to accelerate progress in combating tuberculosis and ensure a healthier future for its residents.
