West Bengal grassroots leadership: Ex

Must Read

In a striking example of the beauty of democracy and grassroots leadership, Kalita Majhi, who once worked as a domestic helper to support her family, has been sworn in as a Minister in the West Bengal government.
The first-time MLA from Ausgram in Purba Bardhaman district took oath of office at a ceremony in Kolkata today. Her elevation to the state cabinet marks an extraordinary journey from a life of economic hardship to one of public service and political responsibility.
Coming from a modest background, Majhi spent years working as a housemaid while remaining actively involved in local politics and community affairs.
Her victory in the recent Assembly elections paved the way for her inclusion in the Council of Ministers. Political analysts say her appointment reflects the increasing prominence of leaders emerging from ordinary social and economic backgrounds in the state’s political landscape.
Speaking after taking oath, Majhi expressed gratitude to the party leadership and said her priorities would include rural development, women’s empowerment, social welfare, and the improvement of basic infrastructure.
