The weeklong traditional Kharchi Puja festival, which commenced on June 26 at the historic Chaturdash Devata temple in Old Agartala, concluded on Sunday amidst a significant gathering of devotees from various parts of the state. The closing ceremony of the festival was graced by the presence of Union Minister of State for Social Justice and Empowerment, Pratima Bhoumik, along with State Tribal Welfare Minister, Sukla Charan Noatia, MLA Ratan Chakraborty, and other dignitaries.

Addressing the gathering, Minister Pratima Bhoumik lauded the Kharchi Puja festival for its contribution to the enrichment of art and culture in the state. She emphasized that the festival also serves as a catalyst for strengthening unity among people from diverse castes, religions, and communities residing in the state. Bhoumik further highlighted Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision to foster cultural unity not only within the country but also on a global scale. She cited the G20 summit as an example of how art and culture can bring nations together.

Minister Sukla Charan Noatia acknowledged the festival’s role in not only preserving culture but also creating economic opportunities for different communities. He emphasized that the Kharchi Puja festival provides a platform for individuals from various backgrounds to showcase their talents and skills, thereby boosting local businesses and livelihoods.

As part of the closing event, meritorious divyang (specially-abled) students were honored, and financial support was provided to them. Additionally, the exhibition stalls set up during the festival were recognized and awarded for their participation and contribution.

The Kharchi Puja festival holds immense cultural and religious significance in Tripura, with devotees participating in various rituals and seeking blessings from the deities. The weeklong festivities not only serve as a time of spiritual devotion but also as an occasion for the community to come together and celebrate their shared heritage.

The successful conclusion of the Kharchi Puja festival in Agartala signifies the state’s commitment to preserving its rich cultural traditions while embracing unity and economic development. The festival serves as a reminder of Tripura’s vibrant cultural diversity and its potential to foster social harmony and prosperity.
