Khowai district is organising Vidya Fest – a cultural festival for celebrating the unique talents of students in Vidyajyoti schools. The festival will see participation of around 2000 students from 12 Vidyajyoti in 29 events across different categories. It is for the first time that a district is organising such an event of grand scale to give a platform for students to express their talents. Competions will be held in performing arts, literary and visual arts in 3 different locations – Khowai, Kalyanpur and Teliamura.

The Vidya Fest was inaugurated by Minister for forests et all Animesh Debbarma  at 11:00 am in Khowai New Town hall. Padmashri Dipa Karmakar was present as esteemed guest. Aparna Singha Roy, Sabhadipati Khowai graced the occasion as Guest of Honour along with Dinesh Debbarma, DEO Khowai and Manika Das Principal Sachin Debbarman Music College Agartala who were special guests.

The inaugural ceremony commenced with a beautiful cultural programme which artistically combined all the ensuing competitions. A movie made by Sub Divisional Administration Khowai on Child Marriage named ‘Abhishap’ was also released during the programme.

District Magistrate and Collector Chandni Chandran who is also the chairperson of Organizing committee delivered welcome speech. The Chief Guest appreciated District Administration for taking this innovative initiative and wished all success to participants. Students were deeply inspired by the presence of Dipa Karmakar as it was her maiden visit to Khowai as an Olympian. Charu Verma SDM khowai presided over the programme. The cultural competitions will continue till 1st December and the concluding ceremony will be on 2nd December in Teliamura Chitrangada Town hall. Governor Indra Sena Reddy has consented to be the chief guest in the said event.
