In Tennis, Venus Williams will become the oldest singles player at the U.S. Open in more than 40 years after receiving a wild card at age 45, the U.S. Tennis Association announced.
The seven-time Grand Slam singles champion last competed in singles at Flushing Meadows in 2023 and has not won a match there since 2019. Her return comes after surgery and a comeback this summer, during which she became the oldest woman to win a tour-level singles match since 2004.
Williams, a two-time U.S. Open winner, has also been granted a mixed doubles wild card. Singles play begins on 24th of this month.
