Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro said that security forces stopped a false flag plot to bomb the United States Embassy in Caracas, aiming to spark conflict with Washington.
He said trusted sources alerted officials about a planned attack by extremist local groups. Security was reinforced at the embassy, which has remained closed since 2019. Maduro claimed the goal was to blame his government and ignite an escalation.
This comes as US President Donald Trump reportedly halted diplomatic efforts with Venezuela. According to reports, Trump told envoy Richard Grenell to cut all contact. Meanwhile, US military activity near Venezuela has increased. Four people were recently killed in a strike on a suspected drug vessel. The US accuses Maduro of narco-terrorism and considers him a major drug trafficker.
