Valentine’s Day 2026 celebrated with enthusiasm in the capital city as couples throng flower markets, parks, and cafés. Surge in red rose prices amid high demand and wedding season fails to dampen festive spirit and romantic celebrations.
Youngsters and newly married couples celebrated Valentine’s Day with vibrant enthusiasm across the capital city on Saturday, turning markets, flower shops, parks, and cafés into lively hubs of romance and celebration. Despite a noticeable rise in flower prices, the festive mood remained undeterred as hundreds stepped out to mark the occasion with their loved ones.
From early morning, flower vendors reported a heavy rush of buyers, especially those seeking red roses — the timeless symbol of love. Shopkeepers said demand was significantly higher than usual, driven not only by Valentine’s Day but also by the ongoing wedding season. As a result, the price of a single rose, typically sold for around Rs 30, climbed to nearly Rs 50 in several markets.
Buyers expressed concern over the sharp increase in prices, noting that bouquets and gift items also became more expensive compared to regular days. “We understand that demand is high, but the sudden hike in prices is noticeable,” said a young customer purchasing flowers for his fiancée. Nevertheless, most couples agreed that the day’s emotional significance outweighed the additional expense.
Markets and popular hangout spots witnessed vibrant scenes of couples exchanging gifts, capturing photographs, and enjoying special meals at cafés offering themed decorations and promotional offers. Many newlyweds described the day as a meaningful opportunity to strengthen their bond and create lasting memories.
