





Entire state is witnessing unprecedented flood situation with widespread destructions even as incessant torrential rains continued for third say and almost all the rivers flowing above the extreme danger level. Already 10 people have died due to landslides or by drowning.
More than 35,000 people have been rendered homeless and shifted to safer places. Worst affected seems to Gomati district where Dambur Hydropower project’s water had to be released to save the project. State government pressed into actions all the rescue and relief agencies in warlike efforts and also called in Assam Rifles to join hands with others. Chief Minister Dr Manik Saha continuously is monitoring the situation. The government has sought more NDRF teams to be despatched to the state.

The state government has also sought Union government’s support to meet the devastating situation.
Entire Agartala city has gone under water while all the areas in its periphery are completely submerged – with many houses in the low lying areas going fully under water.
The flood situation is turning further critical as rains continue to lash out both in the river plains as well as in the upper catchments.
The state government has already declared closure of schools for the two days while District Magistrates have issued Red alert and asked the citizens to move to safer places. They have also instructed evacuation due to fast rising water levels of the rivers.
Chief Minister in his social media handle said “I spoke to Hon’ble Union Home Minister, Shri Amit Shah Ji, and briefed him on the severe flood situation. I also requested the deployment of additional NDRF teams to bolster our response efforts. Hon’ble Home Minister assured me of all possible support during this crisis and I am grateful to him for his assistance.
In the meantime almost all the train services were cancelled to and fro Tripura. In city movements were closed on several roads.
According to officials till filing this repprt 10 deaths were reported during the last two days, 34,100 people belonging to 6,620 families have taken shelters across the state in about 346 camps while 82 houses were completely destroyed, 311 houses severely and 663 houses partly damaged.
In the meantime, Assam Rifles in a statement said, amidst incessant rains inundating large areas of state of Tripura, Assam Rifles has launched Relief & Rescue Operations in East Kanchanbari of Kumarghat, Unakoti district and Karbook and Amarpur of Gomati district,Tripura. Two columns for Flood Relief have been immediately launched by Assam Rifles on the night of 20 August 24 following the requisition from civil administration in view of incidents of landslides and rising water levels. Assam Rifles launched the rescue operations as hundreds of homes went under water in the state periphery due to surge of flash flood following 72 hours of incessant rains. While Haora, Karki, Dhalai, Manu, Muhuri and Gomti rivers swelled dangerously, the rains lashed out at the upper catchment areas as well. These six rivers are flowing above the danger mark.
5607 families have been shifted to 183 relief camps in wake of deteriorating situation due to rise in water levels of rivers.
Assam Rifles following its tradition of being the first responder is working in close coordination with civil administration to reduce the plight of stranded citizens along with providing relief to them.
The Chief Minister has already visited several affected areas and assured the people of all help and reliefs.
Several organizations also have also come forward to help the distressed people with foods and drinking water.
All government agencies and departments concerned are put on alert mode.
