United World Wrestling (UWW) has postponed the 2026 World Wrestling Championships scheduled in Bahrain from 24th October this year, citing the prevailing geopolitical situation in the Gulf region.
The governing body said the decision was taken in coordination with the Bahrain Olympic Committee and Bahrain Wrestling Federation, prioritising the safety and confidence of athletes, officials, delegations and fans. UWW said the early announcement would allow adequate time to identify and prepare a new host nation for the 2026 championships.
