Union Minister of State for Youth Affairs and Sports Raksha Khadse welcomed the Indian contingent which participated in the Special Olympics World Winter Games in Turin, Italy. She congratulated the contingent for winning 33 medals (8 gold, 18 silver and 7 bronze).
Motivating the athletes at an event in New Delhi on Monday, the Minister said that every medal won is a testimony to the athletes’ passion, hard work, and determination. This was the 12th edition of the Special Olympics Winter Games, happened after a long wait of 8 years. This was also the first time that Italy hosted the Special Olympics World Games.
A total of 49 members, comprising 30 athletes and 19 support staff, represented India in the tournament in this edition.
