Union Minister of State for Information and Broadcasting Dr. L. Murugan has said that it is the responsibility of Akashvani and Doordarshan to take the policies and the welfare schemes of the Government to the people living in far-flung areas. Speaking to the heads of the program and news units of Akashvani, DD, and Information and Broadcasting units of the South Zone in Chennai today, he said that the Government has allocated 2,500 Crore rupees for strengthening infrastructure in border areas. The Minister appreciated AIR FM Channels at Kodaikanal and Tiruchi for effectively communicating the government schemes using various forms of communication and asked the other offices to follow them as role models. He said that development schemes to make India great in 2047 should be a concept for promotion through radio jockeys in the program rightly mentioning the schemes. The Minister said that this would raise the awareness of first-time voters. The Minister opined that through the efforts of the units of Information and broadcasting the Vikshit Bharat Sankalp Yatra was a tremendous success. He asked the units to self-evaluate and effectively function in the future and reach out to the people.
Speaking at the meeting, Principal Director General Dr. Vasudha Gupta congratulated Akashvani Chennai for live broadcasting for five hours along with regional commentary during the inauguration of Ram Temple at Ayodhya on the 22nd of January. She applauded the Southern Zone for being creative and adapting to the requirements of the Government. She appreciated the activities of the social media units in the Southern Zone for taking forward the initiatives of the Government and catering to the challenges of the modern era. The Principal Director General appreciated the developments in border information management and said that it was important for Radio to play the harbinger of Society.
