Udaipur Tailor Killing: Pakistan link emerges

Must Read

Investigations into the murder of a Hindu tailor in Rajasthan’ Udaipur has found that the two suspected killers in the case had links with  Karachi-based Sunni Islamist organization Dawat-e-Islami.

Dawat-e-Islami still has links with Barelvi pan-Islamic Tehreek-e-Labbaik extremist organization in Pakistan, Hindustan Times reported, quoting  people familiar with the investigation.

The two suspected killers were arrested by Rajasthan Police from Rajsamand.

They were identified as Gos Mohammad and Riyaz.

A team of the National Investigation Agency (NIA) has been sent to Rajasthan’s Udaipur where the Hindu tailor was on Tuesday beheaded for expressing support for suspended Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader Nupur Sharma. The murder was filmed by his killers and the situation sparked massive tension in the city.

According to reports, the murder is being treated as a terror incident and which is why the NIA might be taking to the probe, media reports said.

The murder:

Two men entered the victim-Kanhaiya Lal’s shop at a crowded market in Udaipur in the afternoon and attacked him with a knife.

A video filmed by them showed Kanhaiya Lal measuring one of the men before he was attacked.

The killers were then seen gloating on camera about the murder and also threatening Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

Kanhaiya Lal had expressed support on social media for the former BJP spokesperson Nupur Sharma, who triggered a huge controversy and nationwide protests with her provocative comments on Prophet Mohammed.
