One vegetable seller was attacked by a herd of wild elephants at Kalyanpur area and killed on spot on Tuesday evening. The deceased, Sukumar Debnath (50), was a resident of Bagber under Ghilatali Panchayat in Kalyanpur.
It is learnt Sukumar Debnath was riding back on a bicycle to his residence from Uttar Maharani after selling vegetables. As he reached Kalinjoy Sepai Para, he fell in front of a herd of wild elephants including tuskers. Elephants soon perished him to death.
Local people said, in a similar attack at the same place, one person was attacked and killed by elephants around eight months ago. Panic and tension among the locals are palpable. Police and Forest department personnel reached the spot. Till the report filing, the body of the deceased could not be recovered.
