Tripura Tribal Areas Autonomous District Council will hold a special session in an attempt to pass its own police force.

TTAADC chairman Jagadish Debbarma while addressing a program at west zonal office to mark 88th birth anniversary of Maharaja Kirit Bikram Kishore Manikya on Sunday said special session is required to pass its own police rules.

Debbarma said in 1994 that then Congress TUJS had passed ADC Police Bill and sent it to Governor for approval. The Governor had approved the Police Act in 2007. But a 10-day special session is required to introduce Police Rules, Debbarma told the programme adding that the public representatives would discuss it in this period.

“Once the rules are introduced, the ADC will be able to recruit in police department directly,” he said.

Debbarma also in his speech pointed out that the indigenous population in ADC areas was decreasing.

“At the time of formation of ADC in 1985, the indigenous population was 88 percent. But, the figure has decreased to 84 per cent at present while the population of other communities increased from 14 to 16 per cent. It indicates the indigenous population is decreasing in ADC,” he said.

The new ADC body would start development works after preparing the budget for 2020-21, he added.

In the programme, blankets were distributed among the people of low income group.

Chief Whip of ADC Rabindra Debbarma among other representatives was present in the programme.
