The 3rd Battalion of Tripura State Rifles (TSR) celebrated its 29th Raising Day on Tuesday with a grand ceremony, commemorating nearly three decades of dedicated service in combating insurgency and maintaining peace in Tripura.

Established on April 1, 1996, in Kachuchhara, Dhalai district, the battalion was formed at a time when the region was plagued by insurgent activities. From its inception, TSR 3rd Battalion played a frontline role in counter-insurgency operations, displaying remarkable bravery and sacrifice. In this battle against extremism, 11 valiant TSR personnel laid down their lives.

The Raising Day celebration witnessed the presence of several dignitaries, including Tripura’s Director General of Police (DGP) Amitabha Ranjan, IPS, IG (TSR) Carry Marak, DIG (Northern Range) Rati Ranjan Debnath, IPS, CO CIAT Training Institute Dilip Ray, SSP , IPS , TSR 3rd Bn Commandant Binoy Kishore Debbarma, IPS, and Dhalai SP Mihir Lal Das, IPS. Senior officials of Tripura Police and TSR also attended the event.

Tributes and Recognition

Addressing the gathering as the chief guest, DGP Amitabha Ranjan reflected on the state’s past struggles with insurgency. “There was a time when Tripura was overshadowed by the dark clouds of terrorism. The peace and stability we enjoy today have come at the cost of the supreme sacrifices made by TSR personnel and civilians alike. Their bravery will be eternally remembered on the soil of Tripura,” he said.

He praised the TSR jawans for their relentless efforts in countering insurgency and emphasized their evolving role in community service. “From fighting extremism, TSR has now become an integral part of social welfare initiatives. Today, they are spreading awareness about a drug-free Tripura through sports and cultural activities, participating in blood donation drives, and serving with distinction at prestigious institutions like the Parliament and Rashtrapati Bhavan in Delhi,” he added.

Honoring the Brave and Community Engagement

The event also saw certificates of honor being presented to the families of the fallen heroes in recognition of their sacrifices. In a gesture of encouragement for local youth, various sports equipment, including footballs, badminton sets, and volleyball kits, were distributed among village clubs in Kachuchhara.

As part of the celebrations, over a hundred TSR personnel voluntarily participated in a blood donation drive, reinforcing their commitment to public service beyond security duties.

The 29th Raising Day of TSR 3rd Battalion not only marked a celebration of its achievements but also served as a solemn reminder of the sacrifices made in the pursuit of peace and security in Tripura.
