In an attempt to make people aware of and also to prevent domestic violence, especially atrocities on married women Tripura State Legal Services Authority (TSLSA) launched  “Save Married Women” campaign in the state.

Judge of the High Court of Tripura, Justice T Amarnath Goud inaugurating the campaign said, such awareness campaign would effectively prevent the atrocities and murders of married women in the society. He called upon the lawyers and police personnel to come forward and take initiative in their own arena of responsibilities to put an end to the crime against women and domestic violence of various forms and shades.

Justice Goud also stressed upon the need of solving marriage related disputes that often lead to divorce with the help of various stakeholders of the society – local leaders of political parties, police, neighbours et al. He appealed to the lawyers to take meaningful initiatives in this regard. He told the lawyers to make the couples more understanding and respecting to each other’s need and mental condition so that domestic violence and women killing could be eradicated.

He said, the pending cases in the High Court of Tripura related to divorce, alimony, child custody etc till the year 2020 had already been settled legally.

In Tripura such awareness campaign was felt long due as there were serious menace of Crime Against Women (CAW) cases in the state. There were also increasing trends of divorce among the newly wed couples for reasons which could very well be solved at the initial stage by the members of the family, neighbours etc.
