The Safety Cell of TSECL under the guidance of Debashis Sarkar, MD, TSECL and active leadership of Rajib Kumar Roy, DGM, TSECL is working hard with an aim to bring the annual statistics of fatal accidents on account of electrocution tends to zero.
Electrical accidents can be minimized to a large extent through generating awareness among the field level employees of TSECL, consumers of electricity and other stakeholders.
As such, this Cell already organized ‘Safety Awareness Campaigns’ at Telimaura, Ranirbazar, Charilam, Champaknagar, Khayerpur, Bishalgarh, Madhupur, and Bishramganj. Such campaigns in other areas of the state will be covered by December, 2022.
‘Safety Stickers’ for making awareness among general public in connection with Hazards of Electricity were affixed at the poles of Distribution Transformers of Office Tilla, Bishalgarh, Champaknagar Bazar, Bishramganj Bazar, Charilam Bazar, Bishramganj PHC and rest of the areas will be covered very shortly. ‘Electric Shock & Treatment Calendars’ were affixed at all Call Centres, Sub-divisions, Sub-stations and Division offices for awareness of TSECL field level employees. Refilling of existing Fire Extinguisher of TSECL Corporate office was done to use in the event of any fire incident and this initiative already saved one Distribution Transformer (DT) located in front of TSECL Corporate office. Inspections of ‘earthing’ status of DTs of various ESDs already initiated to minimize the damage of DTs in future. With a view to making awareness among the field level officers about electrical safety, online training on “Safety in Power Distribution System” was provided to 250 nos. of Senior Managers and Managers by one eminent trainer namely Asoke Chakraborty, Retd. Senior Manager (R&DM), CESC Ltd., Kolkata. Similar training in the physical mood for the field level staffs will be conducted in phase manner shortly. Besides these, approximately 250 nos. of engineers and field staffs will be trained in 3 to 4 phases by NTPC officials to make aware TSECL employees about safety precautions that are prevailing in Navratna utilities.
Programmes are likely to happen in November 2022. In addition to the above, TSECL is procuring Safety PPE (Personnel Protective Equipment), Hand Gloves, Discharge Rod, Helmet, Safety belts, Insulated Mat, Safety Shoes and Rain Coat for its Operation & Maintenance staffs. Further, the Safety Cell of TSECL will provide “Dos & Don’ts” tips w.r.t. Electrical Safety for the consumers of the whole state by March, 2023.
