Trump Hails US-UK ‘Special Relationship’ at State Dinner in Windsor Castle

Must Read

In the United Kingdom, US President Trump and the first lady, Melania Trump, attended a lavish state dinner at Windsor Castle yesterday, where they were warmly received by the British royal family on the first day of an official visit.

King Charles III welcomed President Trump to the banquet, saying the special relationship between the United States and the United Kingdom “has made us safer and stronger through the generations.”  In response, President Trump hailed the special relationship between the US and the UK, saying the word special does not begin to do it justice.  He hailed the visit as one of the highest honours of my life.

The King’s speech emphasised the deep connections between the two countries and the need to maintain cultural, trading and military links. The fact that Mr Trump has been invited to Britain for a second state visit – after his first in 2019 is itself a rare diplomatic gesture that no other American president has enjoyed.

Mr Trump and Prime Minister Keir Starmer are expected to sign a handful of deals today and to hold a joint news conference. Alongside the state visit, there had been 150 billion pounds of US investment announced into the UK, including 22 billion pounds from Microsoft.
Britain and the United States have agreed a technology pact to boost ties in AI, quantum computing and civil nuclear energy, with top U.S. firms led by Microsoft pledging 31 billion pounds in UK investments.
