Transport Minister Sushanta Chowdhury has appealed to Union Civil Aviation Minister Jyotiraditya M. Scindia to expedite the initiation of two new flight routes connecting Agartala with Jorhat and Hyderabad.

Expressing gratitude for the Union Minister’s approval of the Jorhat-Agartala-Jorhat route by SpiceJet and the Hyderabad-Agartala-Hyderabad route by IndiGo

In a letter to Scindia, Chowdhury highlighted that although the Airports Authority of India (AAI) had included these flights in its Winter Flights Schedule starting from October 20, 2023, the respective airline operators are yet to commence operations. The transport minister emphasised that the proposed flight operations would significantly enhance the state’s air connectivity.

Chowdhury underscored the economic potential of Jorhat, the second capital of Assam, with its rich cultural and educational hub, tea industries, and burgeoning tourism. Similarly, he pointed out that the Agartala-Hyderabad route holds great promise for commerce, trade, higher education, medical treatment, and tourism for the people of Tripura and the entire country.

The transport minister sought Scindia’s intervention to facilitate discussions between the Ministry of Civil Aviation and the respective airline operators, aiming to hasten the launch of operations on these vital routes.

Chowdhury expressed optimism that the commencement of these flights would not only fulfil the aspirations of the local populace but also align with the government’s vision of enhancing regional connectivity and fostering economic growth.
