Tripura CM Dr. Saha praised PM Modi’s welfare schemes for transforming the state’s development. From financial aid to farmers and tap water access to healthcare support, thousands of crores have been disbursed through Direct Benefit Transfer, benefiting lakhs of citizens across sectors.

In a press briefing held to mark the completion of 11 years of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s leadership, Tripura Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha presented a detailed overview of how centrally sponsored welfare schemes have significantly transformed the socio-economic landscape of the state. The Chief Minister lauded the Modi government for ensuring transparency, eliminating middlemen, and directly transferring benefits to the people through robust mechanisms like Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT).

Over the last decade, the Modi-led central government has implemented numerous welfare initiatives with the vision of inclusive development across all states. For northeastern states like Tripura—historically underserved due to geographical and infrastructural limitations—these schemes have played a vital role in uplifting the economy, improving healthcare, and enhancing agricultural sustainability. The background of these schemes lies in the government’s philosophy of “Sabka Saath, Sabka Vikas,” aiming to bring marginalized communities into the mainstream by offering direct support through efficient governance.

One of the major schemes highlighted was the PM Kisan Samman Nidhi, under which farmers of Tripura have received a remarkable sum of Rs 843.66 crore via DBT since the scheme’s inception. This financial cushion has helped reduce rural distress and encouraged farmers to invest in better agricultural practices.

In addition, the PM Fasal Bima Yojana, aimed at mitigating crop loss risks, has disbursed over Rs 10 crore directly to farmers. Further bolstering rural credit access, Kisan Credit Card loans worth Rs 2,272 crore have been sanctioned at negligible interest rates, providing farmers with easier access to working capital.

The Chief Minister noted a dramatic rise in the coverage of tap water connections under the Har Ghar Jal Yojana. He pointed out that while only 3% of households had access to tap water previously, the current coverage stands at an impressive 85.97%, showcasing a transformative leap in public utility services.

Healthcare infrastructure and financial security for vulnerable populations also witnessed a significant boost. Under the Ayushman Bharat scheme, health claims worth Rs 239 crore were settled, providing much-needed relief to families facing medical emergencies. Inspired by this, the Tripura government has launched its own state health cover scheme to extend free medical treatment to more people.

In the social security space, 8,251 small-scale traders out of 8,666 eligible individuals received collateral-free loans ranging from Rs 10,000 to Rs 50,000. This financial support is crucial for sustaining small businesses and fostering grassroots entrepreneurship.

Dr. Saha also shared that under the PM Matru Vandana Yojana, around 1.46 lakh new mothers benefited from a total disbursement of Rs 62 crore—a significant step toward maternal health and welfare.

Tripura has also begun its green energy journey. Under the PM Surya Ghar Muft Bijli Yojana, over 15,000 registrations were recorded and rooftop solar panels were installed in 368 houses, marking a promising beginning towards clean energy adoption.

In addition to the performance review, BJP Tripura Pradesh President Rajib Bhattacharjee announced a series of events to commemorate Prime Minister Modi’s 11th year in office. The events, aimed at public engagement and awareness, will be coordinated by BJP state General Secretary Bipin Debbarma, who has been appointed to lead the organizing committee.

The Chief Minister concluded by asserting that Tripura’s all-round development owes much to the bold policies and welfare-centric approach of the central government. He credited Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s decisive leadership for bringing significant progress to a state that once lagged behind in basic infrastructure and social support systems. With continued support and transparent governance, Tripura appears well-positioned for sustained growth in the years ahead.
