Tripura to soon see major tourism and connectivity boost as three ropeway projects—Maharani to Chabimura, Udaipur Railway Station to Tripurasundari Temple, and Tripurasundari Temple to Chabimura—move ahead after Biplab Kumar Deb’s meeting with NHLML CEO Rajesh Malik.

Tripura is on the verge of a major boost to its tourism and connectivity infrastructure, as three long-awaited ropeway projects are set to move forward. West Tripura Lok Sabha MP and former Chief Minister Biplab Kumar Deb on Monday announced that a positive and detailed discussion was held with Rajesh Malik, Chief Executive Officer of the National Highways Logistics Management Limited (NHLML), regarding the speedy completion of these ambitious ropeway projects in the state.

According to Deb, the proposed ropeway routes include Maharani to Chabimura, Udaipur Railway Station to Tripurasundari Temple, and Tripurasundari Temple to Chabimura. These routes are expected to connect some of the most scenic and culturally significant sites in Tripura, offering both convenience for visitors and new livelihood opportunities for local residents.

Deb stated that the ropeways have been a long-cherished dream of the people of Tripura, and with central government support, that dream is now moving closer to reality. “I had a detailed and positive discussion with NHLML CEO Shri Rajesh Malik Ji about the rapid completion of the three ropeway projects. Their technical team will soon visit Tripura to fast-track the process,” Deb said.

He further emphasized that the ropeway initiative will not only enhance tourism infrastructure but also bring significant benefits to local communities. “These projects will help transform Tripura’s tourism potential and open up new avenues for income and livelihood,” he added.

The ropeways, once operational, are expected to attract both domestic and international tourists, giving visitors an aerial view of Tripura’s natural beauty, religious landmarks, and archaeological treasures. The Maharani to Chabimura line will provide stunning views of the Gomati River and the ancient rock carvings of Chabimura, while the Udaipur–Tripurasundari link will ease access to the revered Tripurasundari Temple, one of the 51 Shakti Peethas in India.

The third route, connecting Tripurasundari Temple to Chabimura, is expected to tie together the region’s spiritual and natural tourism circuits—something the state has long envisioned. Officials believe the ropeways will make these sites more accessible and safer, especially during monsoon seasons when road travel becomes difficult.

In his post on social media, Deb reiterated his commitment to the state’s infrastructural progress, “At my Delhi residence, I had a detailed and positive discussion with Mr. Rajesh Malik, CEO of National Highways Logistics Management Limited, on speeding up the construction of three ropeway projects in Tripura—Maharani to Chabimura, Udaipur Railway Station to Tripurasundari Temple, and Tripurasundari Temple to Chabimura. Their team will soon visit Tripura. This long-awaited dream of Tripura’s people will open up new opportunities in tourism, connectivity, and employment.”

The ropeway projects fall under the central government’s larger initiative to integrate logistics and infrastructure growth through the National Ropeways Development Programme – “Parvatmala”, which aims to develop sustainable and eco-friendly transport systems in hilly and ecologically sensitive regions across India.

If completed as planned, the Tripura ropeway projects will mark a significant milestone in the state’s development journey, reinforcing the government’s focus on enhancing regional connectivity, tourism, and local economic activity.

Local tourism experts have welcomed the move, noting that these projects could position Tripura as a key eco-tourism destination in the Northeast. The ropeways are also expected to reduce travel time between major tourist and pilgrimage sites, thereby increasing visitor footfall and business opportunities for local vendors and transport operators.
