A quality evaluation conducted by a West Bengal based tea broker farm revealed that the quality of the Tripura’s home-grown tea has improved considerably and the state is now set to give tough competition to the established tea producing states like Assam and North Bengal, Tripura Tea Development Corporation Chairman Santosh Saha said.
The Bengal based tea farm on Friday conducted a tea testing session here in Durgabari Tea Estate. All kinds of Tea produced in the state by distinguished growers be it big estates or small growers brought their tea samples for the sample testing.
“We have been fighting a battle to establish the name of Tripura in the national tea market. A perception was created that Tripura tea is incapable of making inroads in the state’s own market. But, soon after we took over the charge of TTDC, we succeeded in proving it false. Today, the domestic sales have touched such a high that we are struggling to meet the demand”, said Saha.
He said, the results of the testing has shown that the quality of tea in terms of flavor and aroma has improved and evidently Tripura tea will fetch much higher prices in the auction markets this year.
“We have compared the tea with our previous year products as well and in all parameters, good improvement is noticed”, Saha added.
Niladri Saha, a member of the tea testing team also echoed the same and said that there is a potential in Tripura tea to make inroads in the national markets.
According to Saha, Tripura tea has fetched high prices in the last few auctions as well and they are hoping for the best.
