Tripura takes step to add values in handloom products

State government has attached adequate importance to handloom sector. There are several steps to promote handloom products in national as well as global level in Tripura said, MLA Rampada Jamatia in programme in Udaipur in connection with the Handloom Day today. Special emphasis is also being given to indigenous handloom products, he said at the programme held at Community Hall in Jalema School,  Killa RD Block of Gomati District .

Jamatia said,  that state government is trying promote colourful Risha, Pasra and others traditional attire which  are woven by hand using traditional loom and knowledge.

Steps are also afoot to add values and making the tribal handloom products perfect in all sense aesthetically as well as in usefulness so that they get global market easily.

Besides, there are also initiative to involve many other institutions including bank, Tripura Central University and others for the development of Tripura handloom.

In the programme along with other dignitaries, Khokan Dey of DDM NABARD for Gomati and South Tripura District, Abhijit Chakraborty, Director of RSETI, Kiran Bhowmik, Agricultural Economist and PhD Scholar of Tripura University, Sudip Majumder, Chairman of BAPCL and others have attended the programme today. A total of 25 women doing weaving types of activities with their tribal traditional knowledge have attended in the programme with their traditional weaving instruments.

Khokan Dey, DDM of NABARD has said it is the decision of NABARD to celebrate National Handloom Day and a programme has conducted accordingly with highest effort to honor handloom sector along with weaving  women. As part of this program, a total of 25 packets with different types of necessary instruments for weaving like cotton and all have distributed to women for continuing their weaving activities in order get profit after selling their hand made products falling under handloom sector.

Abhijit Chakraborty, Director of RSETI said in his discussion that the organisatio RSETI is all set to conduct different types of training in order to make people for starting a business unit with an eye to getting the benefits of self employment. The women can able to take training opportunities under different schemes provide by Rural Self Employment Training Institutes(RSETI).

Sudip Majumder, Chairman of BAPCL has said the organisatio like NABARD is more important to establish a marketing unit with the help of ‘Rural Mart’ funded by NABARD to sell our handloom products made by tribal communities people specially in the state Tripura.

Debika Jamatiya, a 35 years old young tribal women who doing handloom activities with their tribal traditional knowledge and made different types of product to sell in the market to earn money for her family. She said, “Handloom is their traditional knowledge and using it to produce their traditional dresses in order to fulfill their family demand. The government is trying to promote it yet but the marketing of handloom products are not so good. It is expecting that the marketing related problem may reduce with the help of government schemes in the coming future”.
