Tripura recorded a 3.15 percent rise in tourist arrivals in FY 2025-26, Tourism Minister Sushanta Chowdhury told the Assembly, highlighting new tourism infrastructure projects and major developments worth Rs 400 crore across the state.
Tripura recorded a 3.15 percent increase in tourist arrivals during the financial year 2025-26 compared with the previous year, Tourism Minister Sushanta Chowdhury informed the state Legislative Assembly on Thursday.
The statement was made on the opening day of the monsoon session of the Tripura Legislative Assembly in response to questions raised by MLA Tofajjal Hossain and MLA Antara Sarkar Deb regarding tourism infrastructure development and tourist arrivals in the state.
According to Chowdhury, Tripura received a total of 5,45,299 tourists during the 2023-24 financial year. The figure included 4,69,328 domestic tourists and 75,971 foreign visitors.
Tourist arrivals increased significantly in 2024-25, when the state recorded 7,07,173 visitors. Of them, 6,27,705 were domestic tourists, while 79,468 were international tourists.
During 2025-26, the state registered a total tourist arrival of 7,29,414, comprising 7,10,243 domestic tourists and 19,171 international visitors. The minister said the overall figure represented a 3.15 percent rise compared with the previous financial year.
The minister also highlighted the state government’s efforts to strengthen tourism infrastructure across Tripura. He informed the Assembly that around 12 new small and medium tourism infrastructure projects had been developed during the period.
In addition, work on five major tourism projects with a combined estimated value of around Rs 400 crore is currently underway, according to Chowdhury. These projects include the 51 Shakti Peetha Park at Banduar in Udaipur, development at Chabimura, Narkelkunja, Sonamukhi in Unakoti and Jirania Park.
The projects are expected to contribute to the expansion of tourism facilities and improve the state’s ability to attract visitors to its cultural, religious, natural and heritage destinations.
Responding to a supplementary question from MLA Ranjit Debbarma, Chowdhury said four of the small and medium tourism project locations are situated within areas under the Tripura Tribal Areas Autonomous District Council (TTAADC).
However, he clarified that there is currently no plan to hand over tourism projects developed by the state government to the TTAADC.

The minister’s statement comes as Tripura continues to focus on tourism as an important sector for economic activity, infrastructure development and employment generation. The increase in tourist arrivals, particularly domestic visitors, is expected to support the state’s efforts to further promote its tourism destinations.
The Assembly discussion also highlighted the government’s ongoing investment in tourism infrastructure, with several major projects being implemented alongside smaller facilities across different parts of the state.
