In a distressing incident, Chailafru Mog, a resident of Radhanagar village in Rajnagar Block, South Tripura district, has reportedly been kidnapped in Bangladesh. The kidnappers have demanded a ransom of Rs. 1 lakh from Mog’s family for his safe release, leaving his wife and family in shock.

Mog’s wife received a phone call from the kidnappers on Wednesday, informing her of the ransom demand. The call has left her in a state of panic as she seeks help for her husband’s safe return. According to her, she sought assistance from the Belonia police, but received no positive response, further adding to her distress.

Chailafru Mog had entered Bangladesh through the Belonia Integrated Check Post (ICP) on September 13 and was expected to return to India on Wednesday. However, before he could cross the border back into India, he was reportedly kidnapped.

Facing a lack of cooperation from local police, Mog’s wife approached the Muhurighat ICP in-charge for assistance. She was then directed to Sudhan Sur, a Group D staff member at the ICP, to contact Bangladeshi immigration officials for help.

The situation took a dramatic turn when a BSF jawan at the border allegedly insulted and tried to remove Sudhan Sur from the gate area. The incident escalated into a heated argument between the BSF constable and ICP officials, culminating in the constable allegedly attempting to physically assault Sur in front of the ICP in-charge. In response, the ICP in-charge lodged a formal complaint against the BSF constable at the Belonia police station.

Meanwhile, Mog’s wife, a mother of three, remains in a state of despair, uncertain of the next steps to take. She is hopeful that authorities will cooperate and work towards ensuring her husband’s safe return. The family continues to pray for his release, while awaiting any positive news.

This incident has raised concerns over safety and coordination between Indian and Bangladeshi authorities in cross-border cases, especially for vulnerable residents near the border areas.
