Tripura government reappoints Jharna Debbarma as Tripura State Commission for Women Chairperson for another three-year term, while Sujata Deb, Megha Paul Chowdhury and Mampi Das join as new members to strengthen women’s rights, safety and welfare initiatives across the state.
The Government of Tripura has reappointed Jharna Debbarma as the Chairperson of the Tripura State Commission for Women (TWC) for another three-year term, while three new members have been appointed to the Commission as part of its reconstitution.
According to a notification issued by the Education (Social Welfare & Social Education) Department on September 25, 2026, Debbarma’s reappointment has been made under Section 6(iv) of the relevant Gazette Notification and the Tripura Commission for Women Rules, 2008. Her renewed tenure will be effective from September 24, 2026, and will continue for a further period of three years.
Along with the continuation of the Chairperson, the state government has filled three existing vacancies in the Commission by appointing Sujata Deb, Megha Paul (Chowdhury) and Mampi Das as new members. Each of the newly appointed members will serve for a three-year term from the date they assume charge.
The notifications were issued by the Special Secretary to the Government of Tripura and circulated to senior constitutional and administrative authorities. These include the Governor, Chief Minister, Chief Secretary and Director General of Police, along with officials of the Social Welfare and Social Education Department and other concerned authorities.
The reconstitution provides continuity in the leadership of the Tripura State Commission for Women while also bringing three new members into the institution. The Commission plays an important role in addressing issues concerning women’s rights, safety, welfare and empowerment across the state.
The continuation of Jharna Debbarma as Chairperson is expected to maintain institutional continuity in the Commission’s ongoing activities and programmes. At the same time, the induction of Sujata Deb, Megha Paul (Chowdhury) and Mampi Das is expected to add new perspectives to the Commission’s functioning.
The appointments come as the role of institutions working for women’s welfare remains significant in addressing concerns related to women’s safety, rights and access to support mechanisms. The Commission is responsible for examining matters concerning women and taking up issues affecting their interests within its designated mandate.

With the new appointments taking effect following the assumption of charge, the reconstituted Commission will continue its work under the leadership of Jharna Debbarma. The government’s latest decision thus combines continuity in leadership with the induction of new members for the Commission’s next three-year term.
