Tripura Power Minister Ratan Lal Nath visited Bishalgarh after repeated outages, assuring uninterrupted electricity during Durga Puja. He announced standby officers, transformers, and infrastructure upgrades, emphasizing adoption of new technology to meet growing power demand and ensure festive reliability.
In response to repeated power outages in the Jangalia sub-station area of Bishalgarh, Tripura Power Minister Ratan Lal Nath visited the locality on Friday, assuring residents of concrete steps to ensure uninterrupted electricity supply during the upcoming Durga Puja celebrations.
The visit came after a series of power disruptions earlier this week, which led to strong public protests. Frustrated residents blocked the road late at night, demanding immediate redressal of their grievances. Local MLA Sushanta Deb rushed to the spot, spoke to the agitated crowd, and personally oversaw restoration efforts. Demonstrating a rare gesture of commitment, Deb even stayed overnight with electricity staff until services were normalized before returning home the next morning.
Recognizing the urgency of the issue, Deb promptly reached out to the Power Minister and urged him to intervene. Keeping his promise, Minister Nath arrived in Bishalgarh on Friday afternoon, accompanied by senior departmental officials. His visit underlined the government’s seriousness in addressing the recurring power problems, especially at a time when uninterrupted supply is crucial for festive preparations.
High-Level Meeting at Bishalgarh
A special meeting was convened at the Bishalgarh Panchayat Samiti’s conference hall, chaired by Minister Nath. It was attended by MLA Sushanta Deb, Bishalgarh Municipal Council chairman Anjan Purkayastha, Panchayat Samiti chairperson Atashi Das, vice-chairperson Chhanda Debbarma, BDO Nantu Deb, and senior engineers of the Tripura State Electricity Corporation Ltd (TSECL).
The discussion focused entirely on finding long-term and immediate solutions to the recurring outages in the Jangalia sub-station and nearby areas. Residents have long expressed concerns over frequent supply disruptions, especially during peak hours and festive seasons.
Measures Announced by the Power Minister
After listening to public representatives and departmental officials, Minister Nath outlined a series of measures aimed at stabilizing supply and preventing future disruptions.
He directed officials to:
-
Deploy standby officers at vulnerable points during the festive period.
-
Keep additional transformers on standby for immediate replacements in case of technical failures.
-
Ensure rapid response teams remain active throughout the day and night.
Nath emphasized the importance of minimizing breakdown time, stating that no household should suffer prolonged outages during Durga Puja, when families, businesses, and cultural organizations depend heavily on uninterrupted electricity.
Technology and Infrastructure Upgrades
Speaking to the media after the meeting, Minister Nath admitted that Tripura’s rising economic activity and growing population have sharply increased electricity demand. To cope with this, he said the government is taking proactive measures.

“We are adopting new technologies and upgrading infrastructure to meet this demand. Today’s meeting, focused solely on one sub-division, shows our commitment to improving power services here,” Nath said.
He further noted that strengthening sub-stations, modernizing transformers, and adopting advanced monitoring systems are all part of the government’s broader strategy to make Tripura’s power sector more resilient and responsive.
Recognition of Ground-Level Efforts
The Minister also lauded the dedication of electricity department staff, who have often worked round-the-clock to restore services during emergencies. “Our frontline workers are the backbone of the system. They will continue their diligent efforts throughout the festive season, ensuring people celebrate Durga Puja without power interruptions,” he remarked.
Assurance to the Public
Both Minister Nath and MLA Deb assured residents that their concerns were being taken seriously and that sustained improvements would follow. The assurance comes at a crucial time, as uninterrupted electricity has become essential not just for households but also for businesses, community pujas, and festive markets.

As Durga Puja approaches, residents remain hopeful that this year’s festivities will be celebrated under well-lit pandals and homes, free from the fear of sudden blackouts.
