The Election Commission of India has set the stage for a series of crucial electoral battles in Tripura, with the announcement of polling dates for the West Tripura and East Tripura parliamentary constituencies, along with the by-election for the Ramnagar Assembly constituency. The electoral process is slated to commence on April 19 with the by-election in Ramnagar, followed by the polls in West Tripura on April 19 and in East Tripura on April 26. The results of these elections are expected to be declared on June 4.

As per the election schedule, the deadline for withdrawal of candidature is March 30 for the West Tripura seat and April 8 for the East Tripura seat. With these timelines in place, political parties and candidates are gearing up for intense campaigning across the state.

The electoral landscape in Tripura is poised for a showdown primarily between the BJP-Tipra Motha-IPFT alliance and the INDIA bloc. The Bharatiya Janata Party has made strategic changes in its candidate selection, replacing Pratima Bhoumik with Biplab Kumar Deb for the West Tripura seat, while nominating Kriti Singh Debbarma for the East Tripura seat.

On the opposition front, the Congress has announced state president Asish Kumar Saha as its candidate for the West Tripura seat, while the Communist Party of India-Marxist (CPI-M) is yet to finalize its candidate.

In terms of voter demographics, the West Tripura constituency boasts a total of 14,61,836 registered voters, comprising 7,33,464 male voters, 7,28,314 female voters, and 58 third-gender individuals. Similarly, the East Tripura seat has a total of 13,95,089 enrolled voters, including 7,01,708 male voters, 6,93,365 female voters, and 16 third-gender individuals.

With preparations already underway, the state election machinery is focusing on ensuring the smooth conduct of the polls. This includes security planning and the training of poll personnel to facilitate a seamless voting process and uphold the democratic rights of citizens across Tripura. As the election date draws nearer, anticipation is mounting, and the political landscape of Tripura is set to witness heightened activity in the coming weeks.
