Tripura Agriculture Minister Ratan Lal Nath highlighted the state’s rise in per capita income from Rs 1.40 lakh to Rs 1.92 lakh and outlined ambitious growth targets for 2030 and 2047. Addressing a Natural Farming workshop, he emphasized agricultural development, farmer welfare, employment generation, and economic progress.

Tripura Agriculture and Farmers’ Welfare Minister Ratan Lal Nath on Monday said that the state has witnessed a significant increase in per capita income over the past seven years and is aiming for even higher economic growth by 2030 and 2047 through agricultural development, employment generation, and welfare-oriented governance.

The Minister made these remarks while addressing the ‘Khet Bachao Abhiyan’ campaign and a workshop on Natural Farming held at Aralia under the Dukli Agricultural Sub-Division. The month-long Khet Bachao Abhiyan, which began on June 1, will continue until June 30 across various parts of the state.

Speaking at the event, Nath highlighted the achievements of the Central Government under Prime Minister Narendra Modi, stating that India has emerged as a global leader in the production of several agricultural commodities, including paddy, milk, spices, mangoes, ginger, millet, cotton, cardamom, chilli, and turmeric.

He said that Indian farmers have benefited substantially from government initiatives and that their incomes have increased over the years due to improved agricultural practices, better market access, and policy support. According to the Minister, agriculture remains the backbone of the country’s economy and plays a crucial role in ensuring food security and rural prosperity.

Referring to India’s economic growth, Nath stated that the country has progressed significantly over the past decade. He noted that India’s economy has risen from the 11th position globally to the fourth-largest economy and expressed confidence that the country would continue advancing toward becoming a leading global economic power by 2047.

The Minister also emphasized the importance of self-reliance, urging farmers and citizens to contribute actively to the nation’s development. He said the government’s vision is based on inclusive growth and collective participation in development initiatives.

Highlighting Tripura’s economic progress, Nath said that the state’s per capita income has increased from approximately Rs 1.40 lakh before the present government assumed office to Rs 1.92 lakh in the last seven years. He further revealed that the government has set a target to raise per capita income to Rs 3.92 lakh by 2030 and to Rs 19.85 lakh by 2047.

He added that the state government is focusing on creating employment opportunities for every household while ensuring that recruitment and opportunities are provided on the basis of merit and qualifications.

The Minister further pointed out that cultivation of crops such as onions, oilseeds, and mangoes has expanded in Tripura in recent years, contributing to agricultural diversification and strengthening the rural economy.

The programme was attended by Deputy Mayor Manika Das Datta, social worker Sampa Das, agricultural officials, and other dignitaries who discussed the benefits of natural farming and sustainable agricultural practices for farmers across the state.
