Tripura State Electricity Corporation Limited (TSECL) observes nationwide Smart Meter Pakhwada from February 9–23, 2026, conducting awareness camps across districts to promote smart meter benefits, transparent billing, real-time monitoring, and efficient electricity services for consumers statewide.

The Tripura State Electricity Corporation Limited (TSECL) has launched a statewide awareness drive titled “Smart Meter Pakhwada” as part of a nationwide campaign. The fortnight-long programme commenced on February 9 and will continue until February 23, 2026, with the objective of educating electricity consumers about the advantages and functioning of smart meters.

According to officials of TSECL, the initiative aims to simplify public understanding of smart meter technology and demonstrate how it improves transparency, efficiency, and convenience in electricity services. Smart meters are designed to provide accurate, real-time data on electricity consumption, enabling consumers to monitor and manage their power usage effectively.

The awareness programme is being implemented at multiple levels, including district headquarters, Nagar Panchayats, and Gram Panchayats across the state. In addition to organized camps, officials are conducting door-to-door outreach and community-level campaigns to ensure direct engagement with electricity users.

Between February 9 and February 13 alone, a total of 31 awareness camps were organized across various districts. West Tripura recorded the highest number with 10 camps, followed by Gomati district with 8 camps. South Tripura and North Tripura hosted 4 camps each, while Sepahijala and Khowai districts conducted 2 camps each. Dhalai district organized 1 awareness camp during this period.

Each camp includes interactive consumer sessions, open discussions, and live demonstrations of smart meter technology. Residents are encouraged to ask questions and clarify doubts regarding installation, billing systems, and usage tracking. Officials are distributing informative leaflets that explain the benefits of smart meters in clear and simple language to ensure better understanding among consumers of all backgrounds.

Experts associated with the campaign highlighted that smart meters provide instant access to electricity consumption data. This real-time monitoring system helps consumers identify high-usage patterns and reduce unnecessary electricity wastage. By encouraging responsible energy consumption, the initiative also contributes to broader energy efficiency goals.

One of the major advantages of smart meters is automated billing. The digital system minimizes manual intervention, thereby reducing the possibility of human error. Consumers are less likely to face inflated or incorrect bills, as readings are transmitted electronically and calculated accurately. Officials noted that this ensures a fair and transparent billing mechanism, strengthening trust between the electricity provider and consumers.

As part of the awareness drive, help desks and information kiosks have been set up at key public locations. These centers assist consumers with queries related to smart meter functionality and demonstrate how to use the official consumer mobile application. Through the application, users can track their electricity usage from home, monitor daily or monthly consumption trends, and gain advance insights into upcoming bills.

Officials emphasized that the adoption of smart meters represents a transformative shift in the power distribution system. By integrating advanced digital technology into electricity services, TSECL aims to improve service quality, reduce operational inefficiencies, and enhance consumer satisfaction.

The corporation has urged all electricity consumers across the state to actively participate in the ongoing awareness camps and take advantage of the facilities being offered. Authorities believe that smart meters are not merely a technological upgrade but a foundational step toward building a reliable, efficient, and future-ready power distribution framework.

With continued public participation and awareness, the Smart Meter Pakhwada campaign is expected to accelerate the transition to digital electricity management and promote greater accountability, transparency, and sustainability in the power sector.
