The Tripura government conducted a State-Level Review Meeting cum Workshop at Pragna Bhawan on Wednesday. The event, inaugurated by Chief Minister Prof. (Dr.) Manik Saha, aimed to assess the current status and progress of various Rural Development (RD) schemes implemented by both the central and state governments.
Addressing the gathering, Chief Minister Prof. (Dr.) Manik Saha emphasized the pivotal role played by officials and employees of the RD department in implementing diverse schemes for the betterment of rural communities. He underscored the significance of the Act East Policy in fostering the development of the North Eastern region, expressing gratitude to Prime Minister Narendra Modi for his efforts in steering the northeastern states towards progress. The Chief Minister acknowledged that Tripura has also significantly benefited from this policy.
District Magistrates from different districts of the state and officials from the Rural Development department were present at the workshop. Prof. (Dr.) Manik Saha emphasized that the RD department holds a crucial position in driving comprehensive development in rural areas. He quoted the Prime Minister’s consistent stance on the interdependence of a state’s development and rural progress, urging officials to effectively utilize the allocated funds for rural development. The Chief Minister commended the state government for successfully implementing various central schemes, such as the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (Gramin), leading to Tripura’s commendable position among other states in the country.
Highlighting the achievements of the state, Prof. (Dr.) Manik Saha disclosed that prior to 2018, 24,989 houses were granted under the PMAY-G. Subsequently, in the financial year 2018-19 to 2019-20, the state received 28,838 houses. With dedicated efforts by the state government, an impressive 183,590 houses were granted in the financial year 2020-21. Additionally, 44,921 houses were granted in the financial year 2021-22. Recently, the central government announced the allocation of an additional 130,695 houses for the current financial year, further reinforcing the state’s progress. The Chief Minister attributed these achievements to the “double engine government” at the center and the state level.
During the program, Chief Secretary J. K. Sinha commended the RD department for its sincere efforts in driving rural development. He highlighted the state’s commendable position in successfully implementing various central schemes, including PMAY and MGNREGA. Sinha mentioned that the Union Minister of Rural Development had previously praised the state’s efforts in this regard. Dr. Debashish Bose, Secretary of the RD department, also addressed the gathering, shedding light on the department’s initiatives. Notable dignitaries in attendance included Prasad Rao, CEO of TRLM, and Arun Kumar Roy, Additional Secretary of the RD department.
The State-Level Review Meeting cum Workshop served as a platform to assess the progress of rural development initiatives in Tripura. The government’s unwavering commitment towards the welfare of rural communities, coupled with effective implementation of central schemes, highlights Tripura’s determination to achieve socio-economic advancement and bring prosperity to its rural areas.
