In anticipation of heavy rainfall predicted by the India Meteorological Department (IMD), the Tripura state government declared a holiday for all schools and Anganwadi centres on Saturday.

Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha, currently in Delhi, announced the decision through social media, emphasising the government’s vigilance and close monitoring of the situation.

Dr. Saha urged citizens to seek assistance from local administrations in case of emergencies and assured compensation for crop damage due to the rains.

Flight services from Maharaja Bir Bikram airport, Agartala, were disrupted, with 10 out of 12 scheduled flights cancelled due to inclement weather.

The IMD issued a red alert for Tripura, indicating the likelihood of very heavy rainfall in the North, Unakoti, Khowai, and West Tripura districts on November 18.

Potential impacts include poor visibility, traffic congestion, temporary disruptions, and the risks of flash floods, landslides, and damage to vulnerable structures.

The government warns of the possibility of lightning and soil dispersion affecting seed germination. The state remains on high alert to manage the aftermath of the predicted rainfall and ensure public safety.

As the state braces for adverse weather conditions, the government’s proactive measures aim to ensure the safety of residents and mitigate potential damages.
