Tripura government allocates around 30 acres at Sekerkote for a proposed cricket academy, while construction of the international cricket stadium at Narsingarh nears completion, strengthening sports infrastructure and creating greater opportunities for young cricketers across the state.

The Tripura government has allocated around 30 acres of land at Sekerkote for setting up a proposed cricket academy, Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha announced on Sunday, highlighting the state’s efforts to strengthen cricket infrastructure and create greater opportunities for young sporting talent.

Speaking at the annual award distribution ceremony of the Tripura Cricket Association (TCA) at Rabindra Satabarshiki Bhavan in the capital, Dr. Saha said the proposed cricket academy would play an important role in promoting the sport and nurturing talented players in the state.

“Cricket is a game of immense passion, enthusiasm and emotion. Keeping this spirit in mind, the Tripura Cricket Association is undertaking various initiatives to promote the sport, develop infrastructure and nurture talented players,” the Chief Minister said.

Dr. Saha said the state government is committed to providing more opportunities and facilities to the younger generation through sports. He emphasised that better infrastructure and systematic support are essential for identifying and developing promising athletes and helping them pursue sporting careers.

According to the Chief Minister, the allocation of nearly 30 acres of land at Sekerkote is an important step towards establishing a modern cricket academy in Tripura. The proposed facility is expected to contribute to the development of cricket at the grassroots level while providing aspiring players with improved opportunities to train and develop their skills.

Dr. Saha also highlighted the progress of the international-standard cricket stadium being constructed at Narsingarh. He said construction work on the stadium is nearing completion, marking another significant development in Tripura’s sports infrastructure.

The Chief Minister expressed hope that the proposed cricket academy at Sekerkote and the upcoming international cricket stadium at Narsingarh would provide cricketers from the state with improved facilities and a more conducive environment for training and competition.

He said the development of modern sporting infrastructure could help players from Tripura sharpen their skills and create greater opportunities for them to compete at national and international levels.

Youth Affairs and Sports Minister Tinku Roy, who was also present at the programme, stressed the need to expand opportunities and facilities for players from rural areas. He also highlighted the growing importance of technology in sports and called for its greater use in player development and training.

Referring to Tripura’s Asmita Dey, who has represented India and achieved success on the international stage, Roy encouraged young players to set clear goals and work consistently towards achieving them.
