To mark World Tourism Day 2024, the Tripura Tourism Development Corporation Limited organized a ‘Peace Walk’ and a cycle rally, aimed at promoting tourism and spreading messages of harmony. The event, flagged off from Ujjayanta Palace by Tripura Governor Indrasena Reddy Nallu and Tourism Minister Sushanta Chowdhury, saw participation from various dignitaries. White balloons, symbolizing peace, were released as the participants embarked on their journey toward Heritage Park, Agartala.

In his address, Governor Nallu highlighted Tripura’s rich cultural heritage and its growing tourism sector. He emphasized how tourism, once associated with leisure, has now evolved into a thriving industry, creating employment opportunities and contributing to the state’s economy. “Tourism now goes beyond enjoyment; it’s about learning. Visitors today not only seek relaxation but also engage with local industries, agriculture, and practices that they can apply in their own regions,” said the Governor.

He pointed out Tripura’s major tourist attractions, such as the Mata Tripureshwari Temple, which has been beautified to boost religious tourism, and the recently renovated Neer Mahal, a royal site that is a significant part of the state’s history. The Governor also underscored Tripura’s reputation as a peaceful and hospitable state, encouraging both domestic and international tourists to explore the state’s diverse offerings.

Tourism Minister Sushanta Chowdhury extended his greetings on the occasion of World Tourism Day, reflecting on the significant growth in Tripura’s tourism sector in recent years. He also touched upon the recent floods that have affected the state, highlighting the Tourism Department’s commitment to supporting the victims during this year’s celebrations. “This year’s event has a special focus on the flood victims. We aim to assist them in their recovery and honor the unsung heroes who played crucial roles in relief efforts,” the Minister said.

Chowdhury explained that the Peace Walk and Cycle Rally were designed not only to promote Tripura’s tourism but also to symbolize global harmony. “Through this rally, we hope to foster peace and brotherhood among countries like Ukraine, Bangladesh, and others, while showcasing the beauty of our state,” he added.

The event also saw the presence of Director of Tourism Prashanta Badal Negi, Governor’s Joint Secretary Ratan Bhowmik, and other prominent officials, who collectively emphasized the potential of Tripura’s tourism industry to drive economic growth and foster international goodwill.
