Tripura government initiates major administrative reshuffle appointing P.L. Agrawal as MD of TFDPC while retired IAS Tarun Kanti Debnath returns as Secretary on contract. Several TCS officers transferred across districts in a strategic governance restructuring move.

The government of Tripura has initiated a significant administrative reshuffle involving senior civil servants and forest service officials, aiming to strengthen governance and streamline departmental functioning across the state. The changes include new postings, transfers, and the contractual re-employment of a retired Indian Administrative Service (IAS) officer.

According to an official notification issued by the General Administration (Personnel & Training) Department, retired IAS officer Tarun Kanti Debnath has been appointed as Secretary to the Government of Tripura on a contractual basis for six months. Debnath retired from service on February 28, 2026, and will assume his new responsibilities from the date he formally joins the post.

During this tenure, Debnath will hold charge of the state’s Labour Department, which includes Employment Services and Manpower Planning. In addition, he will oversee the General Administration (Secretariat Administration) Department until further orders. Officials said the move aims to utilize Debnath’s administrative experience to ensure continuity and efficiency in key governance areas.

In another major development, the state government transferred senior Indian Forest Service officer P. L. Agrawal to a new leadership role. Agrawal, who previously served as Principal Chief Conservator of Forests (Project Formulation, Monitoring and Evaluation) and Chief Executive Officer of Compensatory Afforestation Fund Management and Planning Authority in Tripura, has now been appointed as Managing Director of the Tripura Forest Development and Plantation Corporation Ltd.

The order states that Agrawal’s appointment as Managing Director of TFDPC will take effect immediately and remain in force until further orders. The corporation plays a crucial role in forest-based development activities, plantation initiatives, and sustainable resource management across the state.

Alongside these high-level appointments, the government has also issued a separate order reshuffling several officers from the Tripura Civil Service cadre. The transfers are intended to improve administrative efficiency at the district level and strengthen field-level governance.

Under the reshuffle, Amit Ghosh has been transferred from the position of Deputy Collector in the District Magistrate’s office of North Tripura to the District Magistrate’s office in Dhalai district. Esther Jongte, previously serving as Senior Deputy Collector in North Tripura, has been posted to the same position in Unakoti district.

Similarly, Soma Deb has been moved from the role of District Treasury Officer in North Tripura to serve as Senior Deputy Collector in Unakoti district. C. Lalfaksanga, who was working as District Tribal Welfare Officer in North Tripura, has been transferred to the post of Deputy Collector in the District Magistrate’s office of Dhalai district.

Another administrative change involves Saikat Saha, who has been transferred from the Dhalai District Magistrate’s office to the North Tripura District Magistrate’s office. In addition to his new role, Saha will also hold the additional charge of District Treasury Officer in North Tripura.

Bhaves Chandra Bhadra has been shifted from the position of Senior Deputy Collector in Dhalai district to the same post in North Tripura district. Meanwhile, Lalit Chakma has been transferred from the District Magistrate’s office in Sepahijala district and posted as District Tribal Welfare Officer in North Tripura.
