Tripura flagged off its first organic produce export to Dubai through Lulu Retail, featuring scented lemons, Kalikhasa aromatic rice, and Queen pineapples. The initiative strengthens global market access, boosts farmers’ incomes, and highlights Tripura’s growing reputation as an international organic farming hub.

In a landmark achievement for Tripura’s agriculture sector, Agriculture and Farmers’ Welfare Minister Ratan Lal Nath on Friday formally flagged off a consignment of the state’s organic agricultural produce destined for Dubai through Lulu Retail, one of the Gulf region’s largest and most reputed retail chains. The export marks another significant milestone in Tripura’s efforts to establish itself as a recognized producer of premium organic agricultural products in international markets.

Speaking during the flag-off ceremony, Minister Nath described the initiative as much more than a routine export consignment. He said it symbolizes the hard work of Tripura’s farmers, the remarkable success of the state’s organic farming movement, and the growing recognition of Tripura’s agricultural products across global markets.

The export consignment includes 1,300 organic scented lemons, 182 kilograms of Kalikhasa aromatic rice, and 350 Queen pineapples, all sourced from Farmer Producer Companies (FPCs) operating in Khowai, Gomati, and South Tripura districts. These products will now reach consumers in Dubai through Lulu Retail’s extensive distribution network spanning the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) countries.

Minister Nath stated that the association with an internationally renowned retail chain like Lulu Retail will create fresh opportunities for Tripura’s farmers by expanding their access to overseas markets. He noted that Lulu Retail operates across six GCC countries and procures food products from more than 85 countries, making it one of the world’s leading retail networks for agricultural produce.

Congratulating the farmers, Farmer Producer Companies, government departments, and all stakeholders involved in the initiative, Nath expressed confidence that the export would pave the way for increased international demand for Tripura’s organic products. He reiterated the government’s commitment to promoting self-reliant farmers and building a prosperous agricultural economy under the vision of “Self-Reliant Farmers, Prosperous Tripura.”

The minister also recalled Tripura’s earlier success in exporting 10,000 kilograms of organic dried bird’s eye chilli to Germany, saying the latest shipment to Dubai further demonstrates the state’s growing credibility in global organic markets. According to him, consistent efforts are being made to strengthen organic cultivation, quality certification, branding, packaging, and market connectivity so that farmers receive better returns for their produce.

Highlighting the state’s broader economic development strategy, Nath referred to the recent Destination Tripura Business Conclave, where substantial investment commitments were secured across multiple sectors. He said memorandums of understanding worth Rs 23,539 crore were signed by Tripura State Electricity Corporation Limited (TSECL), Rs 13,080 crore by the Tripura Renewable Energy Development Agency (TREDA), while agriculture and horticulture sectors attracted investment proposals worth Rs 1,698.4 crore.

Officials associated with the programme observed that the Dubai-bound consignment represents a new chapter in Tripura’s agricultural journey. Beyond the export itself, it reflects the state’s expanding capacity to meet international quality standards and compete in global markets. They believe that continued collaborations with international retailers and sustained government support will encourage more farmers to adopt organic cultivation, improve rural incomes, and strengthen Tripura’s position as an emerging hub for organic farming and agri-business.
