The Tripura Pradesh Congress Committee (TPCC) has announced a state-wide movement against the Narendra Modi-led central government, set to begin on December 18. This declaration was made by TPCC spokesperson Prabir Chakraborty during a press conference at Congress Bhavan in Agartala on Sunday.
Chakraborty accused the BJP-led central government of prioritizing corporate interests over the welfare of citizens. He alleged that the government has failed to control inflation and generate employment, stating its primary focus appears to be protecting entities like the Adani Group.
Highlighting disruptions in parliamentary proceedings, he accused the government of autocratic tendencies. Chakraborty criticized the Chairman of the Upper House of Parliament for allegedly supporting partisan activities aimed at silencing the opposition and shielding corporate groups.
He further claimed that BJP leaders and activists have amassed wealth since coming to power, while ordinary workers face job losses and stagnant wages. He also emphasized that unemployment is at a record high, with millions of young people struggling due to a lack of job opportunities.
Addressing local issues, Chakraborty pointed out the sharp rise in commodity prices in Tripura compared to other states, creating severe hardships for residents. Despite government claims of rising incomes, he argued that the state lags in agricultural development and economic growth.
The TPCC spokesperson also accused the BJP of fostering communalism and unrest by sowing divisions between communities. He cited recent communal incidents in regions like Gandachhera and Panisagar as examples of the government’s alleged divisive strategies.
As a countermeasure, the Congress has planned a “Raj Bhavan Abhiyan” on December 18 to demand peace, harmony, and job creation. The campaign aims to challenge what Chakraborty described as the alliance of fascist and communal forces, highlighting the urgent need to address unemployment and social unrest in the state.
