Tripura wins top national awards for outstanding tribal development under PM-JANMAN and Dharti Aaba Janbhagidari Abhiyan, showcasing Chief Minister Manik Saha’s leadership and the state’s model for inclusive, sustainable, and citizen-led tribal empowerment across districts.

Tripura has achieved a remarkable milestone in tribal development, securing multiple national awards at the National Conclave on Adi Karmayogi Abhiyan (AKA) held at Vigyan Bhawan, New Delhi, officials said on Saturday.

According to a senior official of the Tribal Welfare Department, Tripura received two prestigious national awards — Best Performing State in the Implementation of PM-JANMAN and Best Performing State in the Implementation of Dharti Aaba Janbhagidari Abhiyan (DAJA).

In addition, North Tripura district was honoured as the Best Performing District under PM-JANMAN, while Gomati district earned recognition for its exceptional performance under both AKA and DAJA. Unakoti and Dhalai districts also received national acclaim for their outstanding contributions to DAJA.

“These accolades reflect the unwavering commitment of the Tripura government to inclusive tribal development and grassroots empowerment,” the official said.

Under the PM-JANMAN programme, Tripura has completed the construction of 15,584 houses, with 1,632 more under progress. The state has operationalised 141 new Anganwadi Centres, provided functional tap water connections to 38,014 Particularly Vulnerable Tribal Group (PVTG) households, electrified 11,692 households through grid connectivity and 1,051 through solar power, and commissioned 10 mobile network towers.

The initiative has also seen the establishment of 18 multipurpose centres, with 32 more in progress, and the formation of 30 Van Dhan Vikas Kendras. Construction is underway for 67 roads covering 205 kilometres, significantly improving connectivity in tribal regions.

Launched on June 15, 2025, the Dharti Aaba Janbhagidari Abhiyan—part of the Dharti Aaba Janjatiya Gram Utkarsh Abhiyan—is the country’s largest tribal empowerment campaign. Tripura’s innovative saturation camp model has proven particularly effective, with 4,036 camps engaging over 12.7 lakh participants. These camps addressed key concerns such as identity documentation, financial inclusion, healthcare access, and social welfare benefits.

To sustain district-level momentum, Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha designated one minister as Prabhari (in-charge) for each district, ensuring coordinated and responsive implementation of the tribal welfare initiatives.

The Adi Karmayogi Abhiyan, conceptualised under the guidance of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, represents a paradigm shift in tribal governance. Grounded in the principles of Sewa (Service), Samarpan (Dedication), and Sankalp (Resolve), it empowers communities in 392 tribal-dominated revenue villages across Tripura to actively participate in shaping their own development plans.

The programme marks a shift from traditional scheme delivery to citizen-led governance, fostering collaboration between communities, institutions, and the state.

Tripura’s success at the national level, the official noted, is a testament to the visionary leadership of Chief Minister Manik Saha and the dedicated efforts of senior officials, District Magistrates, and field officers.

At Friday’s conclave, President Droupadi Murmu presented the awards in the presence of Union Tribal Affairs Minister Jual Oram and Minister of State Durgadas Uikey.
