Maharaja Bir Bikram College in the city witnessed chaos after a college girl, a Trinamool Chatra Parishad activist, allegedly went on ‘missing’ on her arrival in the college.

There was reportedly a clash between two groups of Trinamool Chatra Parishad (TMCP) and Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) followed by hot altercations.

It was alleged that Solanki Sengupta, member of TMC’s student wing, was detained by a group of ABVP activists in a room of the College when she along with others was preparing for TMCP’s Foundation Day celebration that falls on Saturday.

However, another group of students, the ABVP activists, denied the allegations levelled by the TMCP and said that a group of ‘outsiders’ was trying to disturb the College environment which they had protested.

According to sources, some of the TMCP activists were attacked in the MBB College campus and there were chain of events before the ‘missing’ college girl was found at Old Motorstand Area.

TMC West Bengal leaders- Santanu Sen and Kunal Ghosh, and party’s state leaders Ashish Lal Singh and Subal Bhowmik along with others gheraoed East Agartala Women police station and met SDPO Ramesh Yadav demanding arrest of the culprits.

When contacted, a police officer said, the girl was not ‘detained’; she was actually taken to the Common Room of the College. When police reached the college, she was left on the road from the back side. She then managed to reach Motor Stand where police rescued her, the officer said, adding that an FIR was registered in connection with the incident.

MP Santanu Sen said, “TMCP activist Solanki Sengupta was detained and assaulted by BJP hooligans. There was a chain of events. Some other TMC workers were also attacked. Most importantly, the SDPO was also assaulted.”

“Since the policemen were unable to act under pressure, it was our demand to record the statement of Solanki before the court. Finally, the SDPO accepted our demand that the statement of Solanki Sengupta will be recorded in the court under section 164 CrPC,” Ghosh said.

The TMC activists later staged a protest against the incident outside the police station.
