Tripura Renewable Energy Development Agency (TREDA) under the Power department has been adjudged as the best performing state nodal agency in the entire North East region.

Deputy Chief Minister Jishnu Dev Varma who is also the Power Minister said, TREDA has been selected for achieving second highest solar power installed capacity as on 31.03.2022 and installing highest numbers of solar irrigation pumps as on 31.3.2022.

The Deputy Chief Minister said the TREDA has also been selected as the ‘best performing state nodal agency’ amongst NE States.

In a social media post, Dev Varma, who also holds the portfolio of power, congratulated TREDA for this achievement.

Union Minister of State for New and Renewable Energy and Chemicals and Fertilizers- Bhagwanth Khuba will distribute these awards in the Foundation Day Ceremony scheduled to be held at Cochin, Kerala on August 27 next.

In the meantime, Dev Varma also sought to counter the allegations of CPM state secretary Jitendra Choudhury relating to power tariff hike proposals by the TSECL. He said in the state major projects were taken up for modernisation in generation, distribution and transmission of electricity after the formation of BJP government without imposing extra burden on the consumers.

Dev varma, who also holds the Power portfolio, said the modernization in this sector was taken with funding from international agencies.

The power Minister said,  franchisee was given in five loss-making divisions –where the CPI-M had provided free connections to their cadres without any records. Besides, third-party evaluations of the franchisees were done through the central agency.

“Without raising tariff we have taken up a massive modernization drive – in generation, distribution and transmission of power sourcing funds from international agencies without putting extra burden on the consumers—so it is taking time.

Dev Varma said, a good number of sub-stations were already set up and some more would come up for ensuring uninterrupted power supply.

He also stated, the direct transmission line from Ambasa to Ganganagar would be made functional from December next. The project was inaugurated last year.

The Deputy Chief Minister said, fund was also there during Left regime but they did not implement the project for 12 years. Later, the NEC had scrapped the project. Dev Varma said when he became the Power minister, he took the project back and implemented it—the line will reach Gandacherra by December next.
